Found in the far north-western corner of Rwanda, the Volcanoes National Park (also known as the Parc National des Volcans) is the of the main strings to Rwanda’s bow. 

An area of steep forested slopes - part of the the magnificent Virungas mountain range - the Volcanoes National Park is the setting for one of the most thrilling wildlife experiences to be had; gorilla trekking. Home to over half of the worlds population of Mountain Gorillas, this National Park provides one of the best chances of seeing this spectacular creatures in the wild. 

Gorilla trekking offers the once in a lifetime opportunity to search for our distant cousins as they meander through the luscious green vegetation. Once you find them, you can quietly enjoy every second you spend with them, watching their interactions with each other and you. 

The Mosi-O-Tunya  (the ‘Smoke that Thunders’) – or as we know it, Victoria Falls – is the largest sheet of falling water in the world and one of the seven natural wonders of the world. With a width of 1700metres, the glistening water of the might Zambezi crashes over 100metres down into the Batoka Gorge.

There are two sides to the falls – the Zimbabwean side and the Zambian side. It is extremely difficult to say which side is better as both have their advantages. On the Zimbabwean side is the aptly named Victoria Falls town and on the Zambian side is the bustling town of Livingstone

Victoria Falls is a great addition to any Southern African safari, offering a wide range of adventurous and thrill-seeking activities – from Bungee Jumping, White-Water rafting, Helicopter flights and sunset cruises on the Zambezi. Game is relatively limited to Elephants, Buffalo and common plains game.

Another of Zambia’s well-kept secrets, the Lower Zambezi is one of the most stunning National Parks in Africa. With the might Zambezi River pulsating through, exploring this iconic area can be done in several different ways. Indeed, the Lower Zambezi is renowned for offering some of the best walking and boating safaris in Africa. Searching the shady riverbanks by foot to slowly drifting along the swirling waters of the Zambezi, can reveal a wealth of wildlife including good numbers of Buffalo and Elephant as well as a host of predators including Lion, Leopard and Wild Dog. Furthermore, for fishing enthusiasts, the Lower Zambezi also offers some of the best Tiger Fishing in the world.

One of the birthplaces of the modern Safari, the Greater Kruger Region offers some of the best wildlife viewing in the world. The Kruger National Park is one of South Africa’s largest and most well known National Parks – being the size of Wales. Whilst the game viewing here is excellent inside the park, we feel that the best and most exclusive of experiences are to be had on the private game reserves which border the Park’s eastern edge. Here, game moves freely between the park andthe private reserves, whilst at the same time there are far fewer vehicles, and opportunities to get close to wildlife. These reserves include the world renowned Sabi Sands and Timabavati Reserves as well as the Klaserie Nature Reserve, Thornybush Game Reserve and the Manyeleti Game Reserve.

These reserves and the home to the Big Five – and it is possible to see them all in one day. These reserves have also become recently renowned for incredible Leopard sightings as well as also having a relatively healthy population of the endangered African Wild Dogs.
