The Okavango Wilderness Experience is a 7-night immersive Botswana safari set in a remote and pristine region of the Okavango Delta. This guided Okavango Delta safari offers an authentic wilderness adventure, combining exceptional wildlife encounters, expert guiding, and hands-on bush skills in one of Africa’s most untouched landscapes.
Hosted and guided by James alongside an experienced local professional guide, this Okavango Wilderness Experience takes you deep into the heart of the Delta, far from crowds, where each day is shaped by wildlife movements, seasonal conditions, and true exploration.
The Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is famed for its diverse ecosystems and abundant wildlife. During this safari, you will fully immerse yourself in the untamed beauty of Botswana, exploring floodplains, palm-studded islands, and mystical savannahs. Every corner of this private and secluded area offers spectacular wildlife encounters in one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations.
Beyond wildlife, this safari provides a hands-on educational experience. You will gain a grounded understanding of the Delta’s flora and fauna, as well as practical skills for living and surviving in a remote wilderness with big game.
Your base for the adventure is Kwapa Camp, located in the south-western Okavango Delta where seasonal floodwaters meet the dry Kalahari sands. The area is home to one of the highest densities of elephants in Africa, offering frequent and memorable sightings. Predators are abundant, with very reliable leopard sightings and one of the largest packs of African wild dogs on the continent, often denning close to camp. Lions also inhabit the region, though in lower numbers than other parts of Botswana.
This safari combines luxury, adventure, and education, making it an unforgettable Botswana wildlife experience in a truly remote and spectacular setting.

Wildlife Highlights of the Okavango Wilderness Experience
Experience some of the most remarkable wildlife encounters in Africa on this 7-night Botswana wilderness safari. The south-western section of the Okavango Delta offers one of the highest densities of elephants in the world and is home to one of the largest packs of wild dogs in Southern Africa.
This concession also provides the unique opportunity to track and observe lions, leopards, and wild dogs on foot, giving you a close and authentic perspective of these iconic predators in their natural habitat. Wildlife behavior here is highly seasonal, with movements and activity patterns depending on rainfall during the wet season and floodwaters flowing from Angola.
Each year in the Okavango Delta is different. Some years, the south-western area receives significant floodwater, while in drier years it remains relatively parched. August is typically the peak of the dry season, but it can also coincide with high flood levels, offering dynamic wildlife experiences.
During your safari, you can expect to see:
-
Very frequent leopard sightings, often in and around camp
-
Denning spotted hyenas and wild dogs, including one of the largest packs in Southern Africa
-
Common plains game such as buffalo, giraffe, and zebra
-
Specially designed elephant trench/hide* for up-close elephant encounters
-
Waterhole in front of camp, attracting daily visits from a variety of wildlife
*Use of the elephant trench/hide depends on water and flood levels.
This section of the Okavango Delta guarantees extraordinary and ever-changing wildlife encounters, making each safari experience unique and unforgettable.
