Livingstone
Livingstone is ideally situated near one of the main geographical attractions of Southern Africa - Victoria Falls. The Mosi-O-Tunya (the ‘Smoke that Thunders’) – or as we know it, Victoria Falls – is the largest sheet of falling water in the world and one of the seven natural wonders of the world. With a width of 1700metres, the glistening water of the might Zambezi crashes over 100metres down into the Batoka Gorge.
The Victoria Falls are a great addition to any Southern African safari, offering a wide range of adventurous and thrill-seeking activities – from Bungee Jumping, White-Water rafting, Helicopter flights and sunset cruises on the Zambezi. Game is relatively limited to Elephants, Buffalo, common plains game and a very small number of White Rhino.
When to go:
Victoria Falls is best visited from April to August, when the flow of water is at its greatest, creating a awe-inspiring plume of spray which can be seen from up to 50km away. Nonetheless, the falls is still spectacular outside of these times and visiting during peak game viewing times in other parts of Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana (September and October) is also worthwhile.
