One of the birthplaces of the modern Safari, the Greater Kruger Region offers some of the best wildlife viewing in the world. The Kruger National Park is one of South Africa’s largest and most well known National Parks – being the size of Wales. Whilst the game viewing here is excellent inside the park, we feel that the best and most exclusive of experiences are to be had on the private game reserves which border the Park’s eastern edge. Here, game moves freely between the park andthe private reserves, whilst at the same time there are far fewer vehicles, and opportunities to get close to wildlife. These reserves include the world renowned Sabi Sands and Timabavati Reserves as well as the Klaserie Nature Reserve, Thornybush Game Reserve and the Manyeleti Game Reserve.

These reserves and the home to the Big Five – and it is possible to see them all in one day. These reserves have also become recently renowned for incredible Leopard sightings as well as also having a relatively healthy population of the endangered African Wild Dogs.

When to go:

The Kruger area can be visited at any time of the year, but the best game viewing to be had is during the dry season which runs from May through to October.

Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful cities in the world, with Table Mountain as its backdrop, Cape Town offers something for everyone and can be a great addition to anyone’s safari to Southern Africa.

•Visit the museum on Robben Island

•Visit some of the incredible wine farms and vineyards in Stellenbosch and Franschoek

•Go on the Wine Tram in Franschoek

•Go Whale Watching or Shark Cage Diving in Hermanus

When to go:

Cape Town is a fantastic city whenever you go. It has a long, hot summer from November to March. However, it can be cool, wet and windy during the winter months of June, July and August.
